Determination of High-Resolution Structures for the Post-Genomic Age (2001)

Summary: The U.S. National Research Council sponsored an intensive lab course for researchers from Central/Eastern Europe and the Newly Independent States. The first part of the course was de-voted to macromolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and was held at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biophysics in Warsaw. The second part of the course concerned macromo-lecular X-ray crystallography and was held at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry in Poznan. The course ran June 3-17, 2001. The aim of the course was to familiarize the students with modern methods of macromolecular structure determination, including both X-ray crystallogra-phy and NMR spectroscopy. The course had theoretical as well as practical components. Some of the theoretical lectures were common to both parts of the course, while others relatee spe-cifically to crystallography or NMR. The practical aspects of the course involved actual crystal-lographic and NMR experiments, with opportunities for the participants' own projects.
