International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS)

Summary: The U.S. National Committee for Soil Science (USNC/SS) represents the interests of the U.S. soil science community in the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), a scientific union member of the International Council for Science (ICSU). The USNC/SS promotes the enhancement of the soil sciences by strengthening the United States’ contribution to the international scientific community and informing the U.S. scientific community of soil science activities carried out throughout the world. The committee works towards these goals through: -serving as the official U.S. liaison to the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), -promoting and facilitating participation of U.S. soil scientists in the IUSS, -providing a link between the U.S. soil science community and the National Academies, and -offering advice to the National Academies on all matters pertaining to soil science particularly issues with a global perspective.
