Child Health and Human Rights (1994)

Summary: Once narrowly defined as a concept that dealt with the civil and legal rights of prisoners oppressed by authoritarian governments, the term “human rights” has taken on broader meaning in the post-Cold War era. Also included now are fundamental threats to life, liberty, and personal well-being throughout the world. This lecture by James P. Grant, Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund, addresses the skills and resources that health care professionals can bring to bear on human rights violations, especially those dealing with children’s health.
